Hello everyone and Happy Sunday! Thea here, reporting from a cold Washington D.C. Let’s get down to business, shall we?
The Week of Trailers:
I don’t know what was in the water but this past week, some really awesome trailers came out – for comics, tv shows, and movies. First, there was the first released trailer for the first in Netflix’s upcoming Marvel TV show deal (for which we are SO FREAKING EXCITED WE CAN HARDLY CONTAIN OURSELVES), Daredevil.
No camp, no ridiculousness – the new Netflix Daredevil looks like it has Matt Murdock’s Catholic guilt (the foundation of this complex character!) down pat. Is it April 10th yet?
Then there’s the trailer for the Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men event, The Black Vortex (more info HERE). The trailer is a little bit “IN A WORLD…” but the book sound phenomenal. We’re reading it.
Finally, and most importantly on Thea’s list, there’s the new trailer for the reboot of Poltergeist. Now, we know that technically there is absolutely no need for a remake of Poltergeist – the Spielberg classic is still as chilling today as it was two decades ago – but we’re still excited. Nervous, but excited.
Marvel Presents: A-Force
On Friday, Marvel announced the genesis of A-FORCE – an all-female group of superheroes who will replace the Avengers this spring!!!!! We repeat: ALL-FEMALE AVENGERS, ASSEMBLE!
We cannot wait for the new arc, co-written by G. Willow Wilson and Marguerite K. Bennett with artwork by Jorge Molina.
βShe-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru and other fan favorites, will take charge,β says series co-writer G. Willow Wilson. βWe’ve purposefully assembled a team composed of different characters from disparate parts of the Marvel U, with very different power sets, identities and ideologies.β
Check out the full interview over on USA Today.
This Week on The Book Smugglers:
On Monday, we are thrilled to kick off the week with a day dedicated to The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence by Stan Lee, Stuart Moore and Andie Tong – including an interview with Moore and Tong, a sweet giveaway, and a review of the book.
Tuesday, Thea reviews the eagerly anticipated sequel to Red Rising, Golden Son by Pierce Brown (for reals this time).
On Wednesday, Ana takes over with a review of The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper.
Thursday it’s Ana’s turn again, with a review of another highly anticipated book Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
On Friday, we close out the week with a joint review of Shutter by Courtney Alameda. Plus, Thea is over at Kirkus with a review of the first volume of Sweet Tooth: Out of the Deep Woods by Jeff Lemire.
PHEW! It’s another busy week. Until tomorrow, we remain…

I’m so excited about A-Force! Guh, I shouldn’t be adding more comics to my pull list, but I want that one so much!
