Coverage of Women on SF/F Blogs (2012)
Lady Business posted this year’s result on their onngoing observations about Gender in Genre. The project is about the visibility of women in science fiction and fantasy reviews and whether the gender of the reviewer impacts that visibility.
Make sure to check their post HERE as well as their Observations on Claims of Progressive Reading Choices.
Old School Wednesdays Readalong
After the awesome feedback we received on our Old School Wednesdays Open Thread, we thought it would be a good idea to have a monthly Old School Wednesdays Readalong where our readers pick the book we will all be reading. The voting for our first readalong – to take place on April 24 – is still open for voting HERE or on the sidebar.
Speaking of Old School Wednesdays, here is our new banner! Also designed by the wonderful Kmont.
The Veronica Mars Movie Project
Are you a Veronica Mars fan? Did you think Veronica was one of the bestest female characters on TV ever? Were you, like me, on the LoVe boat? DID YOU KNOW THERE IS GOING TO BE A MOVIE?
If you were anywhere near the Internet this week, chances are, you’ve heard all about the awesome Kickstarter campaign for the Veronica Mars movie that broke ALL THE RECORDS.
I could not be happier.
And speaking of Kickstarters, I am also looking forward to this short story anthology FIGHT LIKE A GIRL. It sounds awesome.
This Week on The Book Smugglers
On Monday Ana reviews The Three Loves of Persimmon by Cassandra Golds, a lovely fable that features a talking cabbage. FOR REALS.
On Tuesday, Thea reviews post-apocalyptic novel Earth Girl by Janet Edwards…
On Wednesday, we post the voting results for our first Old School Wednesdays readalong and a joint review of Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton, a Jane Austenesque novel with dragons!
On Thursday, Thea is back with a review of Fantasy novel Revel by Maurissa Guibord…
Then finally, on Friday, we are delighted to be a host on Jo Walton’s Among Others Blog Tour with a guest post from the author on Inspirations & Influences. Then, over at Kirkus, Ana reviews one of this year’s Nebula Award Nominee for best novella On a Red Station, Drifting by Aliette de Bodard.
And that’s it from us today! As usual, we remain…

March 17, 2013 at 7:34 amI think this “a Jane Austenesque novel with dragons!” might be the line that will finally convince me to pick up a Jo Walton novel!

March 17, 2013 at 7:35 amIt *has* to be Logan. Who else was there? Duncan had all the charisma of a damp paper towel and, whathisname, Pip. Flip. Dork (“PIZ” – Anne shouts from the other room) is totally forgettable (case in point).
(My secret favourite? Leo, who really did get screwed over by VM repeatedly. Shame he was, you know, uncomfortably older than she was. Eee.)

March 17, 2013 at 7:53 amAMENDED. Weevil, please. All the chutzpah of Logan, but hasn’t shagged Cordelia Chase.

March 17, 2013 at 12:14 pmThat is a beautiful banner, especially at original size. What great art work and the font design and layout complements it perfectly.

March 17, 2013 at 12:17 pmDid KMont do the art, too? That’s lovely enough to be a wallpaper at the least – or a postcard or print on the wall.
