I’ve just finished The Bards of Bone Plain by Patricia McKillip. As “new fans” of McKillip you might want to try The Forests of Serre; it’s a retelling of The Firebird and I think it’s pretty much genius.

The last book I read that I unreservedly loved and rave at to everyone I meet in an attempt to make them read it was Let’s Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson (the Bloggess), which is hysterically funny, and insightful and brave and amazing. I also re-read Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, and loved it more the second time.

Recent in terms of having read recently:
“Ja, damals…” by Else Hueck-Dehio (the book itself is from 1957), this is just fabulously written, it’s witty, and smart, and fun and just great for a bit of nostalgia over the past.

For something written a bit more recent I would have to put down “The Cat, The Professor and the Poison: A Cats in Trouble Mystery” (Leann Sweeney, 2010 <- the year we make contact :D), a mellow mystery with cats, or, more to the point, a cat loving lead.
Loved it, but still have to get the other two.

I'm about to start "The Night Circus", there's a particular quote that drew me right in when I picked it up in the bookstore:

“I forgive you for stealing my shawl.”
    She smiles as he laughs.
And then she vanishes. A simple trick of distracting his attention long enough to slip out through the hall, despite the lingering temptation to stay.

I just finished “The Siren Depths”, the third book in Martha Wells’ Raksura trilogy. It was awesome, as are all of her books. Also found a book I had read as a teen by Sally Watson, about a bunch of kids in Israel right after the Second World War and during the founding of Israel as a country. “To Build a Land.” I loved (and still love) Sally Watson’s books – most of ’em are about England and Scotland during the 17th and 18th centuries, with a few ventures into colonial and Revolutionay America, so this book was a bit off her normal subject. But good. Makes me appreciate again how fortunate we Americans are, to have grown up in a land not wracked by war.

Difficult question! I just re-read The Bone Key by Sarah Monette- I’ve loved everything she’s ever written, but this book of short stories were what introduced me to her. She also wrote the Doctrine of Labyrinths series, which I am also re-reading. The best new read recently was Fight Club. I’m still working through my feelings towards that book, but it’s unquestionably, um, unique. This doesn’t count as loved, but I certainly admired it.

Gosh, I’ve accumulated several books over the past few months but haven’t really been able to ready any of them because like some others, I’ve been in school.

It’s nice to see you guys are doing so many giveaways, compared to when I last was involved in the book blogging world more than a year ago, because you really read some of the most amazing books on the market. πŸ™‚

I finished Jason Jack Miller’s Hellbender this weekend, which was very cool. Very atmospheric and a new to me setting in the Appalachians. Quite interesting and scary as well πŸ™‚

I just read Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce and I loved how it was an inventive retelling of little red riding hood and Buffy the Vampire Slayer all at once. Go kick ass women!

What a fabulous giveaway, and yey for being open to all πŸ™‚

I’ve not read anything for a while, I’m doing NaNoWriMo and there just aren’t enough hours in the day. I am starting to feel starved for a good story (apart from my own)

The last brilliant thing I read was a re-read of ‘N’, a short story by Stephen King from Just After Sunset. It is one of my favorite shorts of his, and inspired a short story of my own which earned me a lovely mark towards my degree πŸ™‚

Thank you for the giveaway! (and Happy Thanksgiving as well). I recently read and loved Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone. Although the book hit some really sad parts, I was in the mood for sadness, and the book positively made me ache.

Three Parts Dead by Max Gladstone! I think I’m going to annoy pretty much all my friends and family by insisting they read it. Right now. Right. Now.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

I just started reading the Rise of the Guardians series and blew through the first one. Very clever writing, very different twist on your normal dream creatures, and I like the way all the stories come together. Very very good books.

I recently read/loved The Unfailing Light by Robin Bridges. It’s the second in the series, and it can be a little cheesy at times, but I love the mixture of rich Russian history with the traditional Russian folk tales. Definitely a departure from the commonplace “vampire” stories you find everywhere.

I recently finished The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, and, except for a bit of confusion in the end, I was completely immersed in this story and can’t wait until the next in the series!

There are a lot of books I love but I’ll go with the most recent ones to keep the numbers down πŸ˜‰

Fox by Sherwood Smith which is the second in the Inda series and lots of fun.
The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan which I listened to on audiobook and laughed and smiled my way through my commute.
Under Witch Aura by Maria E. Schneider, the second in an urban fantasy tha defies the unwritten rules of lots of sex and sexy covers for female-led urban fantasy.
Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson which was very different and interesting in setting, character and plot.

I can’t chose! My all-time favorite is obviously James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Loved it, but I think everyone loves it! I also really enjoyed The Melanchony Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories by Tim Burton. This book is written and illustrated in the old Burton style like he was before Disney.. Just lovely. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith is really sweet and idyllic and the series of Adrian Mole are just hilarious, I’ve never laughed so hard.
