KITT, Knight Rider – Don’t hassle the hoff

R2-D2, Star Wars – Artoo! The true hero of the saga.
Donkey & Puss in Boots, Shrek – they are so darn cute!
Garth, Wayne’s World – She makes me feel kinda funny. Like when we used to climb the ropes in gym class.
Ron Weasley & Hermione Granger, Harry Potter – So Ron might technically have the edge as a sidekick, but you can’t split them up.
Goose, Top Gun – Still gives me the sniffles.
Tony Almeida, 24 – Because even Jack Bauer needs a Tony
Willow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Willow is such a sweetheart, and a loyal bff, even when Buffy’s all caught up with her man drama or myriad saving the world martyr crises
Casey Jones, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – A. He’s hot; B. He kicks Raphael’s ass
Chewbacca, Star Wars – Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Chip!Six, Battlestar Galactica – Would Gaius even be alive without her constant, crazy, incredibly sexy interludes (come on, just look at her? It’s not fair)
Madmartigan (and Sorsha), Willow – A. Because he’s hot; B. Because he’s hot
Dwight Schrute, The Office – No sycophantic beet farmer could ever be better than Dwight
Smithers, The Simpsons – Eeeeeeexcelent.
Pokey, Gumby – Because clay is cool

I think I’m going to have to go for Samwise – the very definition of Sidekick in every possible way. A very, very close second is Goose. Show me the way home, honey.

June 7, 2008 at 3:04 pmWait…isn’t that scene in the bar in Top Gun when they sing “you lost that lovin’ feeling” to Kelly McGillis the very reason we now use the term “wingman” in reference to a man’s complementary sidekick when on a quest to pick up ladies??? You never leave your wingman! I’m not leaving my wingman! Goose is getting closer to Samwise, the more I think about it. It’s too bad I don’t have time to watch both movies right now to sort out the comparative aspects.

June 7, 2008 at 3:59 pmThis is hard! So many of these I don’t really think of as sidekicks, but you’re right, they are! Loved Spock, loved Samwise, loved Inigo and loved Madmartigan. Of all those, Spock and Samwise would win, and of those two, Samwise would win, because he is more like a sidekick than Spock.

But sentimentality narrows it done to two – Samwise and Hurley. I can’t choose between them.
