As you probably know by now, Old School Wednesdays is a new weekly Book Smuggler feature. We came up with the idea towards the end of 2012, when we were feeling exhausted from the never-ending inundation of New and Shiny (and often over-hyped) books. What better way to snap out of a reading fugue than to take a mini-vacation into the past, right?

We asked YOU for your favorite old school suggestions – and the response was so overwhelmingly awesome, we decided to compile a goodreads shelf, an ongoing database, AND a monthly readalong/book club. (Note that we’ve removed books that we have already read, or that we selfishly want to review as solos on Wednesday!)
May Watchalong (and Announcing the OSW Summer Movie Series)
It’s spring – and it’s getting close to SUMMER, dudes! Summer is amazing for so many reasons, and one of them is the fact that it is movie season. And in addition to all of the awesome blockbusters hitting screens, there are a ton of old school classic showings in parks and theaters to celebrate the warm months. We Book Smugglers are big fans of the summer movie season – so we’ll be hosting our very own Old School Wednesdays Summer Movie Series from May through September. To kick off the season, we’re letting YOU vote on which film you’d like to watch first (we’ll have more details about the live watchalong hashtag when we announce the winning film). The watchalong will take place on May 27, 2015.
Have at it!
The Goonies (1985)
In order to save their home from foreclosure, a group of misfits set out to find a pirate’s ancient treasure.
E.T. The Extraterrestrial (1982)
A troubled child summons the courage to help a friendly alien escape Earth and return to his home-world.
A reluctant dwarf must play a critical role in protecting a special baby from an evil queen.
As a family moves into their new home, they notice strange events that mostly affect their young daughter.
Planet Spaceball’s President Skroob sends Lord Dark Helmet to steal Planet Druidia’s abundant supply of air to replenish their own, and only Lone Starr can stop them.
Get voting, and we hope to see you on May 27!
Other Movies on the OSW Summer Movie Series:
We let you vote on this one, but we’ve set other movies for viewing throughout the summer. Dates are TBA, but the films include: Back to the Future, The Princess Bride, and Jurassic Park.
