The Big Book Drop – 27 September

We will be hosting alongside our good friends from Pornokitsch, ‘The Big Book Drop” – an afternoon of fun in London where folks can swing by and drop off their unwanted books. It’ll be a nice chilled out afternoon – and it’ll make a pleasant post-con-summer chance to see one another and hang out.

The get-together will take place on September 27 in London at the Seven Dials Club (42 Earlham Street, WC2H 9LA London) right in the middle of Covent Garden, from 2pm to 6pm.

All the donations will go to Give a Book and English PEN. If you were at WorldCon or Nine Worlds, you may remember tables supporting PEN – we want to continue showcasing the generosity of our literary community.

As book lovers, many of us have a massive stack of books that need to find happy new homes. Getting rid of books can often be a heart-breaking activity, but this is a chance to do it all in one fell swoop – guilt-free and for a great cause. (We’re especially thinking of our fellow bloggers – review copies have a tendency to pile up, haven’t they?)

If you have books – new, used, unwanted, unloved, finished, whatever – please bring them along.

To make things EVEN MORE exciting – each book is worth one raffle ticket, and we’ll be holding a drawing for some of the more exotic donations. We’ve got a few rarities of our own to start the pile as well as generous donations from authors and publishers that include:

Wonderbook Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000037_00029]

  • A box of signed, HB limited editions from Newcon Press
  • A copy of Wonderbook by Jeff Vandermeer
  • A signed copy of Smiler’s Fair by Rebecca Levene
  • A signed copy of Apex Book of World SF 3
  • And much, much more.

If anyone has anything else that is fancy-shmancy, that sort of donated prize would be great. Signed stuff, proofs, collectibles that don’t quite fit your collection, that sort of thing…it would be most welcome.

If you can’t make it, you can still help:

Donate something fancy for the raffle (possibly something intangible, like a service? Or that you are ok to post to the winner?)
    Spread the word
Support English PEN and Give A Book in their other initiatives – there are lots of petitions to sign, ongoing fundraisers or perhaps even a membership!

This is all! We hope to see you there! Do let us know if you have any questions – and please spread the word!
