November 1, 2013 at 1:28 pmI’ve still only read his Tiffany Aching series, mostly because of one of the reasons you mentioned for not fully liking this book: the lack of emotional connection. That’s a major issue for me, so even if the book is technically brilliant and just so true, I won’t enjoy it much at all without emotional resonance. I’ve bounced off Pratchett’s other books for this reason, and even the Tiffany series was not quite there for me. Too bad, since he’s quite prolific, and that could have been tons of new reading material.

November 1, 2013 at 8:57 pmI’m hoping you’ll give more of Terry Pratchett’s books a try. I can’t help thinking of his adult Discworld books (like Mort; Wyrd Sisters; Thief of Time). These books made me a fan of Terry Pratchett and show his stellar command of story.

November 4, 2013 at 3:03 pmI love this book but it’s because I first encountered it via audiobook (on tape, even), read by Richard Mitchley. He does voices with SUCH expression and perfect comic timing. It can be tough to find (Audible has it for some areas) but: highly recommended!
