This Week on The Book Smugglers:

It’s another busy one as we return to our first full week, post-Smugglivus! On Monday, we kick off the week with a cover reveal for new speculative fiction anthology, The Other Half of the Sky. Then, we celebrate the release of YA thriller What We Saw at Night with an Inspirations & Influences guest post from author Jacqueline Mitchard (plus giveaway), followed by our joint review of the book.

What We Saw at Night

On Tuesday, Ana reviews historical YA novel Navigating Early by Clare Vanderpool.

Then, we are thrilled to present our first official Old School Wednesday – a new weekly feature in which we endeavor to review old school titles (published at least five years earlier). To kick things off, Ana reviews historical YA novel Green Glass Sea by Ellen Klages (2006), and Thea tackles the third and concluding novel in the Darkangel trilogy, The Pearl of the Soul of the World by Meredith Ann Pierce (1990).

On Thursday, Thea reviews middle grade folktale The Cats of Tanglewood Forest by Charles de Lint, illustrated by Charles Vess.

And on Friday, we close out the week with Ana’s review of fantasy novel The Siren Depths by Martha Wells, meanwhile Thea is over at Kirkus with a review of science fiction thriller The Explorer by James Smythe.

I like your idea for Old School Wednesday. It seems like everyone gets caught up in the newest and shiniest. I like the idea of looking back. I haven’t read either of the books you will be talking about. Happy reading!

I’m really excited about Old School Wednesday. I’m always WAY more excited to hear about a cool old book I’d never heard of than a cool new book.

And can’t wait to see The Pearl of the Soul of the World review. I hardly remember it anymore, but I know it’s very different from the first two books.

Ooh, I’m looking forward to the Wednesday series. And just in general, you wow me every week with being able to keep up with your posts. Seriously, do you have day jobs? I don’t even mean to be snarky; I just actually want to know how you can manage to be so productive, because you need to share your secrets!

Include me in with the others cheering for Old School Wednesday. There are so many great books out, that it’s a shame for them to get lost or forgotten in the search for the newest book.

In spite of what I just said, I can’t wait to hear what Ana thinks of Navigating Early, a book I’ve been looking forward to since I found out about it as I really enjoyed Moon Over Manifest. Bad news, my library still hasn’t received its copies of the book. Good news, I’m second on the hold list, so I’ll get it as soon as the books are received and processed.
