Smugglers’ Stash & News

Hello everyone, and Happy Sunday! While Ana is off enjoying the beach and sunshine in Greece, at least I can content myself with absolute blog power! *cue evil laugh*

Ahem. Down to business.

BBAW 2011:

We have just learned that for the second year we have been awarded the coveted title of Best Speculative Fiction Book Blog for Book Blogger Appreciation Week 2011!!! WOOHOO! Thanks so much to everyone that voted for us – we are thrilled, humbled, and so honored by this award. And a huge thank you to the good folks behind the labor of love that is BBAW – we couldn’t participate this year (Ana on vacation, me back in grad school), but we have enjoyed reading everyone’s excellent posts over the course of last week.

This Week on The Book Smugglers:

It’s (finally!) the week of coveted BEA ARCs! On Monday, Thea reviews the highly anticipated apocalyptic/zombie-ish novel Ashes from Ilsa J. Bick.

Tuesday, it’s Ana’s turn with a review of Maureen Johnson’s newest novel, historical suspense with a supernatural twist, The Name of the Star.

On Wednesday, Thea reviews Rae Carson’s debut fantasy novel The Girl of Fire and Thorns.

And on Thursday, we have a joint review of much-buzzed about novel Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Smuggler favorite author Laini Taylor!

On Friday, we close out the week with our second official Dark Days Tour post, as Claudia Gray talks about her top recommended Titanic reads in celebration of the release of her newest novel, Fateful.

PHEW. It’s a busy week ahead! Until tomorrow, we remain…

REVENGE! Revenge for my godzilla-trounced comrades!

Congrats on the BBAW win! 🙂 So jealous that Ana is in Greece, would love to go there someday.

Yay, you guys are going to do a joint review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone! Loved that book and I’m really curious what you’ll say about it.

This looks like a great week. I’ve been on the fence about getting Shade of London when it comes out, so I’ll see what you have to say about that. Looking forward to the Daughter of Smoke and Bone review too!

I’m not sure you’ll see this, but I think I may have run across a case of whitewashing. I started reading dancergirl by Carol M. Tanzman and the MC is Italian, African-American, Puerto Rican, and possibly a little Cherokee, according to the ARC galley. Then the girl who is given a close-up on the cover? White. Just wanted to mention it since my blog is so tiny that posting about it wouldn’t do anything.

Such a well-deserved win. Also, other things full of win: your lineup for this week. Double also, this is the first I’ve seen of the DoSaB UK cover — SO MUCH BETTER than the US version!

    Congratulations on the BBAW win!

I cannot wait to see what you both think of Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I loved it. Laini Taylor writes so beautifully and just does everything well from plot to world to characters.

I’m also interested in seeing what you think of The Girl of Fire and Thorns. That one sounds really good!
