Book Smugglers Publishing Quarterly Almanac

Announcing The Book Smugglers’ Quarterly Almanac

In which we unveil a brand new adventure from your friendly neighborhood Book Smugglers: The Book Smugglers’ Quarterly Almanac!

As you may have noticed, we Book Smugglers are always looking for ways to improve, to grow, to try new things, and to embark on new adventures. For the past two years–ever since we launched Book Smugglers Publishing in April of 2014–we have been trying to find a way to combine what we do here on The Book Smugglers (reviews, interviews, essays) with the original fiction we publish. Cut to our most recent State of the Union meeting in January 2016, during which we realized what was missing from our ever-growing list: An Almanac.

Without further ado, we introduce…

THE BOOK SMUGGLERS’ QUARTERLY ALMANAC

Book Smugglers Publishing (BSP jpg)

Launching in June, The Book Smugglers’ Quarterly Almanac will collect original short fiction and selected reprints, plus original essays, reviews, and other assorted goodies. The Almanac will be available in both print (in a sweet, collectible almanac-sized book) and electronic formats, and will be sold via all the usual online retailers as well as directly from our website.

Fiction submissions (both original and reprints) are by invitation only for now, although we welcome inquiries or suggestions! We pay $0.06 per word for original fiction and $0.01 per word for reprints.

Nonfiction essay submissions are open to all pitches! We are specifically looking for topical essays about SFF in any type of media; essays concerning fandom; and more. To launch the Almanac, we are creating a new series which is also open for submission, “Where to Start with [X]”–think manga, comics, extensive and confusing science fiction sagas, etc. We pay a flat $50 per non-fiction essay. If you are interested, please don’t email a document before sending us a pitch first – we will strive to reply as soon as possible to all inquires.

THE BOOK SMUGGLERS’ QUARTERLY ALMANAC: Volume I

The first volume of the Almanac will be available in June and the TOC is pretty damn awesome, if we do say so ourselves! Featuring original stories by John Chu and Charles Payseur, reprints from Susan Jane Bigelow and Roshani Chokshi, as well as original essays from Genevieve Valentine and Jay of Jay and Miles Xplain the X-Men, we couldn’t be more thrilled to embark on this new publishing adventure. Plus, the Almanac will include a few reviews of hot new releases from yours truly. And, of course, what’s a new BSP project without some striking artwork? We are delighted to announce that the first volume will also feature brand new original cover art from Kristina Tsenova. (Cover unveiling to come very soon.)

We can’t wait to share the Almanac with you all–and we look forward to your thoughts, suggestions, and comments!
