George R.R. Martin explains why there’s violence against women on Game of Thrones – This goes into the ongoing series OH NO AUTHOR NO due to disingenuous excuse for gendered violence as “historical” even though DRAGONS: “Just because you put in dragons doesn’t mean you can put in anything you want.” WELL, as far as we know you are writing a Fantasy book so yes, you CAN put in anything you want.

We are not your shield by Rhube – The best reply to GRR Martin we have seen last week.

Episode 12 of Fangirl Happy Hour is now live – Renay and Ana took a detour into their Fangirl Vaults and watched Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and read Through the Ice by Piers Anthony and Robert Kornwise. There is a lot of LOLing. Then they finally read Young Avengers Volume 1: Sidekicks and did a lot of delightful squealing over Kate Bishop.

    Great post by Rhube.

But I have to admit to feel like a hypocrit right now due to the fact that personally I’m at the moment more angry at G.R.R. for putting down both SF in general and J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” in particular in his response to the issue of sexualized violence in “Throne of Games” (both TV and Book), though in my defense I’d like to add that I never picked up either for exactly that reason. Meaning I never picked it up because of what I heard about it regarding treatment of female characters, i.e. sexualized violence.
