Weekend Poll

Nonsensical Weekend Poll

Since things are a bit slower on the weekends, we’ve decided to add in the cool new poll feature to the Book Smugglers. For our first random, nonsensical poll, we ask:

Which main man would you rather be stuck on a desert island with?

Sebastian Lord St. Vincent–notorious rake and charmer from Lisa Kleypas’ Devil In Winter

Jamie Fraser–Scotsman extraordinaire from Diana Gabaldon’s epic Outlander series

Derek Craven–Uncultured, rough gambling club mogul from Lisa Kleypas’ Dreaming of You

Sebastian Ballister, Marquess of Dain–The Bain and Blight of the Ballisters; nasty Beelzebub himself from Loretta Chase’s Lord of Scoundrels

Rhett Butler–Blackguard, blockade running Southern gentleman scoundrel from Margaret Mitchell’s classic novel, Gone With the Wind

Heathcliff–Brooding, vindictive, tortured Bryonic hero from Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights

Mr. John Thornton–Principled, proud northerner mill owner from Elizabeth Gaskell’s North and South

We invite you to go ahead and have a vote, feel free to make an argument for (or against!) your choice.

Ai, ai , ai. Which one to choose?
All of my favorite heroes are listed here, every single one of them.

There is part of me that would like to go for Heathcliff, he is my oldest love – I was 15 when I cried my eyes out because of him.

Or Rhett Buttler and his sourthern charms. Derek Craven , oh Derek cry for ME. Or Dain and his inner child needing to be hugged.

But I think my choice will be the one and only St Vincent – a man who needs to love as much as he needs to be loved. Plus he is blond. With Blue eyes. Just like Sawyer. *swoons* Plus if we consider that he will be my one and only company on a desert island, I really want one with a sense of humour.

Thea, are you going to choose Jamie?

That’s too hard! Rhett, St Vincent, John Thornton as portrayed by Richard Armitage, Jamie Fraser! Maybe I’ll draw straws!

Well, I hated Dreaming of You so much that I DNFed it, and ignored Kleypas forevermore, so don’t know Sebastian Lord St. V. at all.
    Really didn’t like Outlander.
Really didn’t like Lord of Scoundrels…

… and at this point, I’m throwing myself off the desert island, because being eaten by the sharks would be more fun.

I could live with John Thornton – he’d be practical, hard-working and kind – but unless he was in the Armitage-package, I wouldn’t drool at the thought of being marooned with him.

Pondering who I do want to be marooned with – someone like that nice Doctor from Carla Kelly, I think.

Better still, make it a dessert island – small atoll of rich chocolate mousse, shaded by fruit salad trees, and watered by chardonnay springs – and leave me there with a spoon.

Well of COURSE I went with Jamie. The Outlander books own me. Plus, I dig the accent and the red hair.

Although it was a close call with Rhett in the race!

I totally knew you’d pick St. Vincent, Ana 🙂

Marg, drawing straws really might have to be the final resort if one were placed in such a situation!

Or of course, there’s Marianne’s Dessert Island. Sign me up for some of that goodness! I’ll bring my own spoon, of course.

Hmmmm – very tough choices you’ve given us. Unlike Marianne – I adored Dreaming of You and it’s hero Derek Craven.
Sebastian I liked – but not as much.
I don’t get the Jamie love. I’ve read Outlander but kind of scratch my head over why he’s so revered.
Dain – I think would be a bit to much work – though I love him dearly.
    Rhett – nope – doesn’t do it.
Heathcliff – too brooding with a real nasty vengeful streak in him.
    John Thornton – *sigh*

So – after that evaluation, although it’s a tough choice on a couple, the one I’d WANT to be stuck on an island with – John Thornton but only if it’s Richard Armitage playing him.
